Rio, May 9 (official website of Rio DE Janeiro Olympic Organizing Committee) – There were some site structure defects in the construction of sports venues of Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. Recently, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes has vowed to punish the ones who were responsible for the construction of these venues.
It has been found that the roof of Estádio Olímpico João Havelange had the risk of collapse due to structural problems. The stadium was built for Pan American Games in 2007. Due to the tight construction time, many of these projects were completed at the last moment in a hurry.
Eduardo Paes said that although the stadium was not built by him, he did not want to shirk the responsibility as the mayor. They would identify those persons in charge, and punish them.
The closing of this stadium became one of the thorniest issues in the preparatory work of Brazil 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
