Beijing Olympic City Development Foundation (BOCDF) has donated funds for Shangdu County Sports School to buy sports equipment. The donation ceremony was held on September 17 at the stadium of Shangdu Senior High School in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Yuan Bin, president of BOCDF; the foundation’s secretary general Wu Weilin; Cao Kaihong, deputy secretary of the Party committee and head of Shangdu county, directors of Ulanqab City Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau, the poverty alleviation office and other departments, and more than 600 teacher and student representatives of high schools in Shangdu county attended the ceremony.

Wu Weilin presented a check of RMB 300,000 to the school representative on behalf of the foundation, and the school issued a donation certificate to BOCDF. The donation will be used to purchase sports equipment for Shangdu County Sports School.

Yuan Bin said in her speech that 2020 was the final year of China’s campaign to eliminate absolute poverty and a decisive period to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects. As a charity organization, BOCDF responds to the national call to actively participate in and contribute to poverty alleviation and spread the philosophy of charity in Olympic cities. She hoped the sports training equipment could help children in Shangdu county improve their training and competition level as well as physical fitness, and create a good atmosphere of caring for the physical and mental health of children in the whole society.

On behalf of more than 20,000 teachers and students in the county, Wang Zheng, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shangdu County Committee and deputy county chief, expressed his gratitude and respect for the foundation's charitable action. Wang Zheng said that the donation provides strong support and assistance to the newly built Shangdu County Sports School, and enriches the sports facilities in the county. At the same time, it is an important element of assistance between Beijing and Inner Mongolia, and marks the further consolidation of friendship between the capital and Shangdu. Moreover, it’s also an important manifestation of the long-term poverty alleviation mechanism, indicating the completion of the counterpart assistance mechanism between BOCDF and Shangdu county.

Wang Zheng expressed his expectation that with support from all sectors of society and the foundation, Shangdu County Sports School is able to create a "high, precise and cutting-edge" sports talent cradle, and cultivate more sports talents with a solid foundation, outstanding skills and excellent quality. It could became the bridge and link of friendship between the foundation and Shangdu, and contribute to the promotion of Olympic development.

After the ceremony, participants visited the sports venues of Shangdu County Sports School and learned about poverty alleviation needs at Shangdu County First High School.
