On 11, 13 and 14 July, a total of 300 teachers and students from Zhangjiakou Zhixing Primary School, Mengguying Primary School and Nancaiyuan Primary School participated in a series of Youth Olympic education activities in Beijing. The activities were hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA).
Th teachers and students took a tour of the Beijing Olympic Museum, the National Aquatics Center and the National Stadium. At the Beijing Olympic Museum, they were shown around by the guide and watched the exhibition boards and exhibits. They got an idea of the history of the Olympic Movement in the world and in China and learned about the bidding and preparation process for the Summer and Winter Olympic Games held in Beijing.

The teachers and students took a lively course on Olympic values. A staff member of the museum delivered the course themed “The Olympic Mission of Cuties” in a simple and engaging way, so the teachers and students learned a great deal about the mascots of past Olympic Games.

At the 3D theatre of the Beijing Olympic Museum, the teachers and students watched Ice Hockey in the Greater Bay Area, an award-winning film of the Beijing International Sports Film Week. By watching the film, they got to know how children in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area experience the joy of ice hockey on hot summer days.

At the National Aquatics Centre, also known as the “Water Cube”, the teachers and students for the first time witnessed the amazing technology behind ice and water conversion.

At the Ice Cube Ice Sports Centre, they experienced the joy and passion of curling in the hot summer.

During their visit to the National Stadium, the teachers and students saw the magnificent Bird’s Nest up close, admiring the hard work of its architects and builders.

It is learned that this event is hosted by BODA and organised by the Beijing Olympic City Development Center, with support from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, the Management Committee of the Beijing Olympic Park Central Area, Beijing Olympic Museum and the Zhangjiakou Olympic City Development Centre. The tour to the Beijing Olympic Museum aims to encourage more young people to care for the Olympic Movement, engage in exercises, enhance their teamwork, enterprising spirit, tenacity and perseverance, and embrace the Olympic spirit of “mutual understanding, friendship, solidarity and fair play”.
